ARK Invest trims AMD stake, shifts capital toward Circle and defense tech names

Deep News15:20

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest released its latest ETF trading records on October 26, continuing to reshape its holdings across technology and innovation sectors.

The largest single move of the day was the sale of 24,796 AMD shares, raising roughly US$12.81 million and extending a recent trend of reducing exposure to the chipmaker.

On the buy side, ARK spent about US$5.64 million to increase its position in stablecoin issuer Circle Internet Group, while also adding to aviation and defense technology companies.

Drone maker AeroVironment received roughly US$7.29 million in inflows, and electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft company Archer Aviation saw about US$4.54 million in additional buying.

Further reduction in AMD brings in US$12.81 million in a single day

According to the trading records disclosed on October 26, ARK sold 24,796 AMD shares for about US$12.8143 million, the largest single transaction of the day.

The move extends ARK's recent trend of lowering its AMD position.

AMD is a key supplier in the AI chip and server processor market, and its share price has recently fluctuated amid shifting prospects for artificial intelligence infrastructure investment and changes in the industry's financing environment.

ARK also sold 21,894 Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing shares that day for about US$9.1629 million, further adjusting its semiconductor-related holdings.

In addition, ARK reduced its position in the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), with a disclosed transaction value of about US$3.7933 million.

The number of shares sold in the original trading record had a formatting irregularity, making it impossible to confirm the exact figure.

Adding about US$5.64 million in Circle, readjusting stablecoin exposure

On the buy side, ARK purchased 65,615 Circle Internet Group shares through its ARKW ETF for about US$5.637 million.

It is worth noting that on the previous trading day, October 23, ARK had just sold some Circle shares, and this renewed buying shows the fund is still adjusting the size of its position in the company.

Circle is one of the issuers of the U.S. dollar stablecoin USDC, with its business centered on stablecoin issuance and related digital financial infrastructure.

ARK's latest purchase increases its exposure to stablecoins and the digital finance sector, but a single day of trading alone is not enough to determine whether its long-term allocation strategy has changed.

Adding aviation and defense tech stocks, AeroVironment draws US$7.29 million

Beyond Circle, ARK also concentrated its buying that day on aviation and defense technology companies.

ARK purchased 59,171 AeroVironment (AVAV) shares for about US$7.2928 million.

The company mainly provides drones and related defense technology products, making it ARK's largest single-stock purchase of the day by value.

In the aviation sector, ARK bought a combined 1,161,604 Archer Aviation (ACHR) shares through its ARKQ and ARKX ETFs for about US$4.5419 million.

Archer mainly develops electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), with its business focused on the future urban air mobility market.

ARK also purchased 63,612 Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS) shares for about US$2.4605 million.

The company's business involves unmanned systems and other defense technologies.

Overall, while trimming semiconductor companies such as AMD and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing that day, ARK increased its investment exposure to stablecoins, drones and aviation technology companies.

These transactions, however, reflect the fund's position adjustments for the day and are not enough on their own to conclude that ARK is fully exiting the semiconductor sector or changing its overall AI investment strategy.
