At the MWC26 Shanghai opening, China Mobile Chairman Chen Zhongyue delivered a keynote address, sharing his perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence.
He expressed the view that artificial intelligence should not be confined to serving a select few elites or solely the general public. Instead, it should be universally accessible and beneficial, illuminating every individual's life. In today's world, AI is profoundly reshaping all aspects of production and daily life, with every industry exploring its future direction, and telecom operators are no exception.
"I often ponder: when networks have no blind spots, data traffic is completely free, and computing power is no longer scarce, what should and can we operators do to seize the opportunities of the next decade?" he pointed out. AI has removed the ceiling for growth in the telecom operator industry, enabling us to reach previously underserved groups, broaden development horizons, and enrich the substance of services.
Chen Zhongyue stated that reflecting on the history of mobile communications reveals it is essentially a chronicle of continuously expanding service boundaries. In the mobile communication era, networks carried voice and messages, with the core being real-time human connection across distances, and industry competition centered on network quality. In the mobile internet era, networks transmitted digital bytes, with the core being efficient content distribution, serving both people and platforms, where competition hinged on data transmission speed. Now, in the mobile intelligence era, we are processing not just 0s and 1s, but intelligent systems that carry knowledge and solve practical problems. The times call on us to pioneer new frontiers in intelligent services and create a brand new landscape for mobile intelligence.
He believes that future mobile intelligence will not be limited to connections between people, or between people and platforms, but will progress towards deep collaboration between humans and silicon-based intelligence. To achieve this, we must reconstruct service paradigms, reshape network architectures, break new ground through innovation, and shoulder the era's mission of making mobility universally beneficial. China Mobile will extend from traditional mobile communications into mobile computing and mobile intelligent AI, focusing holistically on two major areas: intelligent service systems and intelligent infrastructure, to build a new flywheel for growth.
"In the past, mobile phones, as detached intelligence, expanded the boundaries of human cognition. Currently, embodied intelligence like humanoid robots and wearable devices extends human senses and limbs. In the future, endogenous intelligence for human-machine symbiosis will deeply permeate all scenarios of production and life, covering every group of people," he said.
