Nanjing Port Co.,Ltd. has officially inaugurated its first container Arctic shipping route with the departure of the vessel "Hongwei" from Longtan Port terminal, carrying 1,826 standard containers loaded with lithium batteries, automotive components, and other cargo bound directly for Europe.
The Arctic route serves as a crucial "golden waterway" linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Compared to the conventional Suez Canal route, this Arctic passage can reduce the voyage by approximately 3,200 nautical miles, significantly cutting transportation time and costs. The launch of this route is expected to further reduce trade costs along the shipping corridor, enhance trade efficiency, create additional cooperation opportunities for enterprises on both sides, and support sustained growth in bilateral trade volumes.
To ensure smooth berthing and cargo operations for the "Hongwei" vessel, Nanjing Port Longtan Container Co., Ltd. conducted advance coordination of terminal resources. During night operations, four shore cranes were deployed for simultaneous operations. The terminal adopted an upper and lower stack storage model for export containers, maintaining six smooth container delivery channels while optimizing operational procedures to improve loading and unloading efficiency. The company also strengthened communication and coordination with shipping companies, freight forwarders, and other relevant parties to ensure seamless cargo transportation and delivery, ultimately enabling the successful launch of this shipping route.
