XPeng's MONA Series Debuts First SUV Model, Marking Acceleration in Global Expansion

Deep News07-07

XPeng Inc. recently unveiled and began pre-sales for the first SUV in its MONA series, the MONA L03, in Beijing. Following the pre-sale event, XPeng Inc. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng, MONA series product head Yang Guang, and MONA brand ambassador and owner Ouyang Nana participated in a joint media interview. The new energy vehicle industry is currently transitioning from the phase of "popularizing electrification" to a new stage of "accelerating intelligent competition." The value of a global vehicle model extends beyond capturing niche markets; it also tests a company's organizational responsiveness across multiple regional markets. This includes understanding diverse user needs, translating intelligent technology into stable and reliable user experiences, and building brand equity in cross-market, cross-cycle competition. Against this backdrop, the launch of the XPeng MONA L03 moves beyond the singular goal of boosting volume. Internally, it targets the young consumer demographic to solidify the brand's value foundation. Externally, it serves as a key vehicle for accelerating and implementing the company's globalization strategy.

Enhancing Life Through Tech Democratization with a Focus on Co-Creation

The core of sustainable growth for an automaker lies in accurately answering the fundamental question: for whom is it creating value? Within XPeng Inc.'s brand philosophy, a brand is not merely a visual symbol or marketing slogan but the positioning, emotion, and perception associated with the company in the minds of users. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng defines "XPeng" as a brand oriented towards exploration, technology, global reach, and the future, with its core pathway being the improvement of life through technology democratization. According to the company, the MONA M03 has been the sales champion in the 100,000 to 200,000 yuan pure electric sedan segment for 22 consecutive months. The user base accumulated by this series provides crucial support for XPeng Inc.'s further expansion into the youth market. The extension from the sedan M03 to the SUV L03 is not merely a product line expansion. It is designed to cover the lifestyle radius of young users—from commuting and socializing to outdoor exploration—thereby completing the brand's scenario coverage. Rather than "defining needs for young people," XPeng Inc. emphasizes involving them in product co-creation. MONA series product head Yang Guang stated that the team's product ideas stem from the real-life experiences of its young members, such as camping, sports, and photography, with many lifestyle elements being translated into functions, technologies, and details. Brand ambassador Ouyang Nana also mentioned that she provides feedback on her daily usage experiences and suggestions to the team, hoping to participate in product iteration from the perspective of an owner, not just an endorser.

Accelerating Globalization: From 'Product Export' to 'Regulatory Integration'

Unlike the traditional export model of selling mature domestic models overseas, the XPeng MONA L03 was developed from the project's inception as a global vehicle. It has been adapted for research and development targeting 64 countries and regions, meeting five-star safety standards in China, Australia, and European countries. For Chinese automotive brands, globalization is no longer about selling finished products abroad but about incorporating regulations, road environments, user habits, and service capabilities into the R&D system from the very beginning of product development. Only by achieving a shift from "product export" to "regulatory integration" can replicable economies of scale be formed in international markets. He Xiaopeng noted that approximately 20% of XPeng Inc.'s current sales come from overseas, and the company aims for more models to enter a broader range of countries and regions from the start. For the L03, the plan is to proceed with a global launch following its debut in China. Through overseas R&D centers and localized operational capacity building, the company intends to enable the vehicle to achieve more natural interaction and stable intelligent experiences across different languages and road environments. More notably, XPeng Inc. is deeply integrating its globalization strategy with its "Physical AI" technology roadmap. He Xiaopeng expressed the company's desire to build differentiated Physical AI capabilities, with AI, robotics, and globalization as key investment areas. For the automotive industry, the value of AI should not be limited to feature additions on screens but should further penetrate the vehicle's perception, decision-making, control, and safety systems. The path of full-stack in-house development and cross-domain integration pursued by XPeng Inc. is driving the evolution of smart cars from functional intelligence to whole-vehicle system intelligence. Future competition for Chinese automakers in global markets will extend from product specifications, pricing, and channels to software capabilities, data closed-loops, localized engineering, and compliant operations. In this context, XPeng Inc. plans to expand its overseas production scale starting this year, including upgrading existing factories and establishing new R&D centers, with regions such as Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America under consideration.
