China's Ministry of Commerce has voiced its strong disapproval and serious concern regarding a substantial fine imposed by the European Commission on the e-commerce platform AliExpress.

In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesperson for the ministry responded to media inquiries about the European Commission's announcement on July 20th. The EU body levied a fine of 550 million euros against AliExpress, citing the platform's obligations under the EU's Digital Services Act.

The spokesperson stated that China firmly opposes the EU's actions, which are seen as using platform regulation as a pretext to erect digital barriers and implement discriminatory measures aimed at restricting and suppressing the normal operations of Chinese e-commerce enterprises within Europe.

China urges the European side to cease exploiting ambiguities in legal provisions to abuse discretionary power and instead treat Chinese companies fairly and justly.

The ministry affirmed that China will resolutely support Chinese enterprises in using legal means to protect their rights and will take robust measures to safeguard their legitimate interests.
