With the Dragon Boat Festival holiday coinciding with the approaching summer travel season, there is a concentrated release of demand for family trips, summer retreats, and visiting relatives, with the civil aviation market expected to welcome a new wave of travel.
According to information from the airline's Shanghai branch, China Southern Airlines has pre-arranged capacity allocation for all its Shanghai-originating routes, with overall capacity being sufficient to meet diverse passenger travel needs.
Starting from June 19th, which is the Dragon Boat Festival, the airline will resume daily direct flights between Shanghai Pudong and Changbai Mountain, opening an aerial express channel for travelers from the Yangtze River Delta region heading to Jilin for summer vacations. Concurrently, several services, including the "Joyful Kids" children's meals and "Pets in Cabin," will be progressively upgraded to ensure smooth holiday travel for Shanghai passengers.
Key Routes Upgraded to Wide-body Aircraft, Direct Flights Facilitate Summer Getaways
Based on the latest flight schedule from China Southern's Shanghai operations, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the airline plans to operate approximately 200 daily inbound and outbound flights at Shanghai's two major airports, Hongqiao and Pudong, offering over 62,000 outbound seats daily. Several key routes from Shanghai to destinations like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing Daxing, Urumqi, Taipei, and Seoul will see some flights operated with wide-body aircraft, further enhancing the passenger travel experience.
Current ticket sales indicate that recent popular domestic destinations from Shanghai are mainly Guangzhou, Urumqi, Dalian, Kunming, Guiyang, and Chengdu, with flight booking rates climbing daily. On international and regional routes, round-trip tickets for some flights on popular routes like Shanghai Pudong to Seoul and Ho Chi Minh City are selling briskly for the holiday period.
The resumed direct Shanghai-Changbai Mountain route is a key summer tourism route launched by the airline ahead of the peak travel season, operating daily. The specific schedule is: outbound flight CZ8247, planned to depart from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 07:25 and arrive at Changbai Mountain Airport at 10:10; return flight CZ8248, planned to depart from Changbai Mountain Airport at 11:25 and arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 14:20 (actual flight information is subject to the airline's official website).
Enhanced Services for Smooth Travel, Experiencing Festival Traditions on the Journey
During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the airline will actively promote online check-in via its "China Southern App" and mobile baggage drop-off services, dynamically open additional check-in counters, set up express lanes for urgent passengers, and manage peak passenger flow. For special groups such as seniors, children, and passengers with disabilities, the airline offers "one-on-one" full-process assistance and guidance services. Considering the increase in passengers carrying gift boxes and high-value luggage during the holiday, dedicated baggage packaging guidance will be provided, with additional staff deployed at baggage carousels and assistance points set up for oversized baggage, with a focus on helping elderly passengers retrieve their luggage.
At the Pearl lounges in Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports, China Southern's Shanghai operations will host Dragon Boat Festival-themed activities, offering traditional foods like zongzi and special holiday beverages, and setting up interactive craft areas for making traditional sachets and DIY five-color bracelets. Passengers can participate for free, take their creations home, and experience the charm of intangible cultural heritage during their journey.
Onboard flights, China Southern's Shanghai operations will also conduct the "Fragrant Zongzi Warms the Cabin, Affinity and Care Accompany the Journey" themed activity, creating an immersive cultural experience. On the day of the festival, custom zongzi gift bags will be offered on domestic express and business routes, allowing passengers to savor the festival's flavors in the air.
"Joyful Kids" Meals Bookable, Meticulous Care for "Pets in Cabin"
Beyond the festival specialties, meal options for children and elderly passengers have also been enriched. Starting in June, China Southern Airlines launched its new paid "Joyful Kids" meal service at six locations: Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing Daxing, Shenzhen, Kunming, and Chengdu. The menu adds popular items like pizza, cartoon-shaped bread, mango pomelo sago, and Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Simultaneously, a dedicated meal service for elderly passengers is introduced, offering lighter, easier-to-chew food choices.
To meet the needs of some pet owners traveling with their animals, the airline offers a "Pets in Cabin" service on select routes. The Shanghai branch has specifically optimized the pet transport process for hot weather, implementing full-process temperature control, ventilation, and sun protection measures, and adhering to principles of priority loading and unloading to reduce pets' exposure time on the airport apron, striving to ensure their safe travel.
