From Construction Worker to Agricultural Innovator: A Sweet Path to Prosperity in Gansu

Deep News06-05

Returning to build a new nest and start a fresh journey, Wang Jianqiang, a long-time construction worker, answered the call of Gansu's "Returning Geese Project" in 2021, coming home to dedicate himself to the apple industry. His transition from the front lines of construction to a new venture in fruit deep-processing has been bolstered by supportive policies, giving him greater confidence in starting his business back home.

Currently, Wang is busy with farmers planting 100,000 new saplings in the nursery base. In 2021, recognizing the limitations of traditional apple sales, he pivoted to the deep-processing sector. Over two years, he led his team on four separate study trips, though the process of learning from others was not without its difficulties. Warm, supportive services have made staying in his hometown a secure and motivating choice for this returning talent. With assistance from local human resources departments, Wang actively collaborated with researchers from universities and institutes to develop a "three-steam, three-bake" processing technique, which was successfully patented that same year.

Since then, his company's dried apple production has reached 200 kilograms daily, sold nationwide through multiple online platforms with approximately 150 orders per day. In 2024, Wang set his sights on the apple sapling market, establishing orchards and developing a base, planting the seeds of his industrial dream in the soil.

Agricultural processing inevitably involves waste management, and Wang has developed his own green solution. He ferments leftover peels and cores to produce agricultural organic enzymes, achieving a green cycle of resource utilization. These eco-friendly fertilizers are then provided free of charge to surrounding fruit growers, enabling his business development and local community prosperity to advance in tandem.

Transforming from a laborer on construction sites to a craftsman-entrepreneur in the apple industry, the "Returning Geese Project" has paved a broad avenue for Wang Jianqiang's successful venture, also creating a vast stage for entrepreneurship and employment for many other dream-driven strivers like him.
