Harvard University's investment arm has disclosed a $2.2 billion stake in SpaceX, having invested early in Elon Musk's rocket company, which now yields substantial returns following its landmark public listing.
The Harvard Management Company revealed the position in a regulatory filing on Friday. Within its $4.3 billion U.S. equity portfolio, SpaceX has become the single largest holding by market value.
This stake underscores that SpaceX's record-breaking IPO in June has generated significant profits for a range of university endowments. Many of these institutions first invested in the company over a decade ago through venture capital channels.
According to the latest publicly available data, as of June 2025, the Harvard Management Company managed assets totaling approximately $57 billion.
Harvard is not the only beneficiary of SpaceX's entry into the public markets. The University of California's investment arm disclosed in a filing this week that it holds roughly $1 billion worth of SpaceX stock, while the University of North Carolina and Washington University in St. Louis also hold stakes in the company.
