On September 18, Beiqiao Subdistrict in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, launched a national defense education themed event under the banner of "Sharpening Skills to Strengthen National Defense, Supporting the Military Through Joint Development." The activity featured immersive defense education through a range of formats, including the unveiling of a new education center, project contract signings, and militia tactical demonstrations, all aimed at consolidating military-local dual support efforts.
Attendees included Mei Haijian, a Standing Committee member of the Xiangcheng District Party Committee and Political Commissar of the District People's Armed Forces Department, the Deputy Director of the District Veterans Affairs Bureau, leaders from the local armed police garrison, and Long Binyan, the Subdistrict Party Working Committee Secretary. The event commenced with the solemn national anthem, followed by an opening address from Long, who emphasized that Beiqiao Subdistrict remains committed to fulfilling its political responsibility for party-led armed forces management, with a solid track record in conscription, red heritage publicity, and the standardized development of the People's Armed Forces Department. Looking ahead, she stated that the subdistrict will continue to deepen national defense awareness among all citizens, strengthen and optimize the militia ranks, expand socialized military support initiatives, and provide dedicated services for veterans and military family members to cement the strong bond between the military and civilians.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling ceremony for the Beiqiao Subdistrict National Defense Mobilization Education Center, a new facility housed within the Subdistrict Veterans Service Station. Designed to integrate red research, defense science popularization, hands-on experiences, and conscription services, the center serves as a fresh platform for routine national defense education within the subdistrict.
The event also saw three centralized signing agreements involving military, local government, and corporate entities. The Subdistrict Charity Association and the Veterans Service Station signed agreements with caring enterprises, the Youth Chamber of Commerce, and the local armed police garrison, covering areas such as preferential assistance for military supporters, employment and entrepreneurship support for veterans, and joint military-civilian development. A list of military support projects was released, converting commitments into actionable initiatives and building a multi-stakeholder socialized support system.
During the ceremony, Beiqiao's core militiamen delivered a comprehensive drill featuring self-defense combat techniques and emergency riot control tactics, showcasing their disciplined capability to serve in daily operations, respond swiftly in emergencies, and fight effectively in wartime. Mei Haijian provided a review of the demonstration and delivered remarks, commending the subdistrict's achievements in party-led armed forces work, dual support collaboration, and defense education. He urged continued reinforcement of party responsibility over armed forces, development of robust militia emergency response units, effective implementation of joint project deliverables, and full utilization of the new educational platform to bring defense awareness into communities, schools, and enterprises, rallying broader societal engagement in national defense.
The event concluded with a collective chorus of the song "March of the Powerful Army." Afterwards, attending leaders toured the Beiqiao National Defense Mobilization Education Center. The gathering was joined by relevant members of the Subdistrict Party and Government leadership, Party organization secretaries and deputies from villages, communities, and the central commercial district, publicity and organization committee members, militia company and platoon commanders, heads of subdistrict departments and Beiqiao Middle School, along with representatives of veterans and students.
