NIO vehicle owners recently reported that the in-car map provider selection has become a mandatory choice between AutoNavi (Gaode) and Baidu Maps. A system notification displayed on the infotainment screen explains that, to optimize system resources and deliver a more stable performance experience, the navigation service will be streamlined, requiring users to select one preferred map application to continue using, while the unselected option will be removed.
According to a screenshot shared by a car owner, the notification states that if no selection is made by September 27, 2026, the system will automatically retain the most recently used map application. This has sparked speculation among some owners that one of the two mapping services may be nearing the end of its partnership with NIO.
However, a customer service representative from NIO Inc. (NYSE: NIO) clarified that the cooperation agreements with both map providers have not expired, and users are free to choose either option. The initiative is primarily aimed at improving the stability of the vehicle's system, and owners can keep whichever map they prefer based on personal usage habits.
