Haidian District Concludes Inaugural Labor Relations Coordinator Competition with AI-Powered Practical Challenges

The final round of the inaugural Labor Relations Coordinator competition, part of the sixth "Haidian Craftsman Cup" Employee Vocational Skills Competition, recently concluded in Beijing's Haidian District. The event featured neatly arranged blue answer podiums and large screens displaying AI-generated videos of employment dispute cases, as contestants raced against the clock to analyze scenarios in what amounted to a hands-on drill focused on grassroots labor relations governance.

Co-hosted by the Haidian District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and the Haidian District Federation of Trade Unions, the competition was tailored to the employment characteristics of Haidian's core science and innovation zone. It aimed to promote learning, training, and institutional development through competition, and was structured into four stages: pre-competition training, preliminary selection, semifinal advancement, and final competition.

Since its launch in September, the event attracted over 500 registrants from more than 400 organizations, including corporate human resources directors, HR specialists, labor relations officers, union cadres, and full-time and part-time mediators from labor dispute mediation committees. After preliminary and semifinal rounds, 10 contestants advanced to the final.

The final featured several standout segments. In the mandatory question-and-answer round, the competition innovatively introduced AI short dramas that authentically recreated workplace management scenarios, covering typical cases such as the determination of labor relations in outsourced employment, job adjustments for pregnant female employees, protection of corporate trade secrets, and work-related injury recognition for over-age workers. Contestants quickly identified legal points and provided handling rationale and solutions.

The most distinctive segment was the AI simulation training exercise, in which AI played the roles of both employee and employer while contestants acted as mediators. They handled simulated disputes on the spot, including cases involving expired labor contracts that were not renewed and wage differential disagreements, testing their comprehensive abilities in legal application, policy analysis, risk prevention, and communication and mediation.

The event was simultaneously open for on-site observation, with key enterprises in the district, industry supervisory units, and relevant students invited to exchange and learn, promoting the profession of labor relations coordinator and advanced employment governance concepts. According to organizers, the competition established a talent cultivation pathway integrating training, competition, certification, and empowerment to select and reserve outstanding labor relations coordination talent. Top-performing contestants can earn a Level 2 (Technician) certificate for labor relations coordinator, while those who pass can obtain a Level 3 (Advanced Worker) certificate. Outstanding contestants will be prioritized for recommendation as "Haidian Craftsmen" and included in the district-level craftsman talent pool.
