Hanwha Aerospace has confirmed an explosion occurred at one of its factories in Daejeon, central South Korea, on Monday, with emergency services responding to reports of a blast and heavy smoke from the site.

The South Korean defense giant stated it is still verifying the details of the incident, including whether there are any casualties.

Yonhap News Agency cited police and fire department sources indicating the accident may have involved materials related to propellant, with an investigation into the cause to commence once the fire is extinguished.

According to South Korea's presidential office, the President has been briefed on the incident and has instructed relevant departments to mobilize all available resources for rescue and response efforts.

The President also ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion and called for measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
