The latest data from the Liquor Price Index shows that the average retail prices for major premium Chinese baijiu products continued to decline on July 7th. If one bottle of each major product were bundled for sale, the total price today would be 9,882 yuan, a further drop of 19 yuan from the previous day. This marks a second consecutive day of decline, reaching the lowest point in four days. Across the market, some products hit monthly highs while others hit monthly lows, with significant price divergence among core products. Trading sentiment at the retail level has cooled compared to the previous period, and the overall price trend remains in a low-level, volatile pattern.
Today's data reveals three products increased in price while eight decreased, giving the losers a clear majority. On the upside, Qinghua Lang led the gains, rising 5 yuan per bottle and nearing the 700 yuan threshold again. Qinghua Fen 20 increased by 4 yuan per bottle, matching its near one-month high. Wuliangye 1618 saw a modest rise of 1 yuan per bottle.
On the downside, Wuliangye Pu Wu Eighth Generation led the declines, dropping 8 yuan per bottle to set a new record low since the Liquor Price Index began tracking data in November last year. Gujing Gongjiu Gu 20 fell 6 yuan per bottle, retreating from the record high it set just yesterday, though it remains at the second-highest level of the past month. Xijiu Junpin decreased by 4 yuan per bottle. Both Jingpin Moutai and Guojiao 1573 dropped 3 yuan per bottle, with the former still hovering around the 2,400 yuan level. Both Feitian Moutai and Shuijing Jiannanchun fell 2 yuan per bottle. The former hit its lowest price since April 23rd of this year, further narrowing its premium over the official iMoutai platform price, while the latter matched its near one-month low. Yanghe Mengzhilan M6+ experienced a slight decrease of 1 yuan per bottle.
Data Collection and Methodology
The daily Liquor Price Index data is sourced from approximately 200 collection points reasonably distributed across major regions nationwide. These points include, but are not limited to, authorized distributors, independent dealers, e-commerce platforms, and retail outlets. The raw data consists of actual, transacted retail prices from these points over the past 24 hours, aiming to provide objective, scientific, and fully traceable data on the market prices of well-known baijiu. The influence of the official iMoutai platform, which began selling Feitian Moutai at 1,499 yuan per bottle on January 1st (adjusted to 1,539 yuan on March 31st) and Jingpin Moutai at 2,299 yuan per bottle on January 9th (adjusted to 2,359 yuan on May 16th), is gradually becoming apparent in the average retail prices of these two products. The daily published prices follow a calculation rule weighted by actual transaction volume, and verifiable prices from this new channel have been incorporated into the calculations for these two products.
Industry News and Regulatory Updates
In other significant industry news, two new industry standards issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the "Management Specification for Wholesale of Alcoholic Commodities" (SB/T10391-2026) and the "Management Specification for Retail of Alcoholic Commodities" (SB/T10392-2026), officially came into effect on July 1st. This marks the first major revision of regulations related to the circulation of alcoholic beverages in 21 years, affecting 9.4 million business entities nationwide. Firstly, the new rules require wholesale operators to establish electronic ledgers covering the entire sales process and retail operators to maintain procurement management ledgers, with all related records to be kept intact for three years. Secondly, the rules set clear disclosure requirements for e-commerce operators, mandating that online sales pages clearly display information such as product name, specifications, price, origin, and production date, and that logistics and delivery records be retained. Furthermore, the rules introduce requirements for product traceability, encouraging the establishment of a full-chain traceability system. Retailers are required to verify traceability labels, production batch numbers, and the integrity of original packaging. Additionally, the rules address prohibitions on selling alcohol to minors, age verification during delivery, and promoting responsible drinking. It should be noted that these two standards are recommended industry standards, serving primarily as guidelines and warnings for compliance.
