Shares of Tianqi Lithium Corporation (ASX: 09696) rose more than 3%. At the time of writing, the stock was up 2.7% to HK$45.06, with a turnover of HK$499 million.
The company announced that on the afternoon of June 9, 2026, it received a report from its subsidiary, Talison Lithium Pty Ltd. A localized fire occurred during maintenance at its third-stage chemical-grade lithium concentrate plant in Australia. The fire in the relevant area was promptly and effectively extinguished, all on-site personnel were safely evacuated, and there were no reported injuries. Some individual pieces of equipment were damaged, but the main equipment and production lines were unaffected.
Following the incident, Talison immediately activated its emergency response plan, and an investigation into the event has commenced. As of the date of the announcement, Talison is assessing the losses and impact caused by the incident, as well as the repair work required.
It is reported that Talison's third-stage chemical-grade lithium concentrate expansion project was completed and officially began trial production with feed on December 18, 2025. After initial commissioning, the first batch of qualified chemical-grade lithium concentrate product was produced on January 30, 2026. This incident may affect the progress of ramping up production at Talison's third-stage chemical-grade lithium concentrate plant to some extent. The specific impact will be determined after further assessment. The operations of Talison's other lithium concentrate plants in production are unaffected by this incident.
