Methanex (MEOH) shares experienced an after-hours plunge of 8.24% on Thursday, following the release of the company's fourth-quarter financial results.
The sharp decline came after Methanex reported an adjusted loss of $0.14 per diluted share for Q4, a significant miss compared to the analyst consensus estimate for earnings of $0.66 per share. This result also represents a substantial swing from earnings of $1.24 per share reported in the same period a year earlier.
While quarterly revenue of approximately $969 million showed a slight year-over-year increase, the unexpected loss and the wide earnings miss were the primary drivers behind the negative investor reaction in the post-market session.
