Weibo Cracks Down on Accounts Glorifying Criminal and Prison Experiences

Deep News12-08 13:11

Weibo has issued a special announcement targeting a new trend of short-video account promotion: leveraging personal or fabricated criminal and incarceration histories as primary content to attract followers. These accounts glorify criminal acts and exploit prison experiences to build a "former convict" persona, violating public order and Weibo’s community guidelines.

One verified account, "@韩三哥东北往事," was found marketing itself using a "released prisoner" persona to gain traffic. In accordance with laws and platform rules, the account has been suspended for 180 days, including a ban on new followers.

Moving forward, Weibo will intensify efforts to identify and penalize such违规 content, collaborating with other platforms to curb the misuse of criminal or prison narratives for attention. The platform aims to safeguard minors' mental well-being and maintain a healthy online environment.
