Following its autonomous driving service deployment at the 15th National Games, DiDi Global Inc. (DIDIY) announced the launch of round-the-clock, fully driverless ride-hailing tests in designated demonstration zones of Guangzhou. Starting today, users booking rides via the DiDi App may have the opportunity to experience completely unmanned autonomous vehicle services.
The test service area covers key locations in Huangpu District’s core living circle, including subway stations, schools, shopping centers, office buildings, and residential communities—addressing high-frequency travel scenarios. Operating 24/7, users can request fully driverless cars through the autonomous driving section of the DiDi App or opt for a hybrid dispatch (combining autonomous and traditional ride-hailing) by selecting both options after entering pickup/drop-off points. The system intelligently matches vehicles based on station proximity, road conditions, dispatch distance, and supply-demand dynamics.
For rides assigned to driverless vehicles, passengers can unlock doors via the App or through automatic proximity detection. During trips, users may modify destinations or request stops in safe zones as needed. A one-touch in-car screen connects passengers to remote customer support if assistance is required. DiDi Autonomous Driving will continuously collect user feedback to refine the service experience.
Since obtaining a remote (unmanned) intelligent connected vehicle road test permit in November 2022, DiDi has focused on enhancing its autonomous system’s performance in complex urban scenarios. Over a year of internal testing and public trials, its technology has demonstrated stable operation during rush-hour traffic, low-light conditions (dusk/night), and rainy weather.
