During pre-market trading in the United States, multiple publicly listed companies with business ties to Greenland saw their share prices skyrocket: Greenland Energy Co (GLND) surged 165%, Greenland Mines (GRML) jumped over 110%, and CRITICAL METALS CORPORATION (CRML) climbed more than 25%.
The rally follows the signing of a security agreement among the United States, Denmark, and Greenland, designed to bolster American military presence in the Arctic territory and prevent US adversaries from establishing military bases there.
During the Danish parliamentary election on March 24, 2026, residents near a polling station in Nuuk, Greenland, raised the Greenlandic flag. After Washington and Copenhagen reached a deal on security arrangements for the Arctic island of Greenland, shares of several US-listed companies with Greenland operations spiked sharply on Monday.
In pre-market trading, Greenland Energy Co (GLND) soared more than 165%; Greenland Mines (GRML) advanced over 110%; and CRITICAL METALS CORPORATION (CRML) gained nearly 26%.
The agreement is expected to be formally signed during the United Nations General Assembly this week. Under the trilateral pact among the US, Denmark, and Greenland, Washington will build a substantial military presence in the region, while rivals of America are barred from constructing military facilities there.
Previously, President Donald Trump had repeatedly floated the idea of annexing the Danish autonomous territory, consistently stressing Greenland's strategic importance to US national security. Following the deal, Trump posted on social media on Friday that America will "permanently possess full authority to take all necessary actions in Greenland to defend the security of Greenland and the United States of America."
Trump stated the agreement carries no financial cost for the US, noting that Washington will "immediately begin the process of constructing large-scale military installations in suitable areas across Greenland, with numerous potential sites available on the island." Core details of the accord have yet to be made public.
Over the weekend, officials in both Greenland and Denmark reassured their citizens that the agreement would respect Greenland's right to self-determination while preserving the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a statement: "We are about to finalize an agreement that will safeguard and strengthen the security of Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark, the United States, and the Western alliance, which is a cause for celebration." He added: "The agreement fully recognizes Greenland's interests and our position in international cooperation, benefiting all parties involved."
On September 9, 2026, during NATO's "Arctic Shield 2026" military exercise, a Danish Air Force EH101 "Merlin" rescue helicopter landed at Narsarsuaq, Greenland. Greenland Energy Co is an oil and gas exploration firm targeting hydrocarbon resources in the Jameson Land basin along Greenland's east coast. The Texas-based company has ties to Trump's circle; previously, the Greenlandic government fined its joint venture partner for shipping exploration equipment to the island without permission.
Meanwhile, Greenland Mines is a natural resources company operating the Skjoldungen project, one of the world's largest undeveloped deposits of palladium, gold, and platinum. CRITICAL METALS CORPORATION is a mining firm focused on developing critical mineral resources, currently advancing the Tanbreez rare earth project in southern Greenland.
