OpenAI Acquires Voice AI Startup Weights.gg

Deep News08:53

Two years ago, OpenAI's technical team published a blog post detailing that the company had developed voice replication capabilities using advanced artificial intelligence technology. The researchers stated that this new software was of an exceptionally high technical standard, and out of an abundance of caution, OpenAI decided not to release it publicly at that time.

Although this stance has remained unchanged, the company has not halted related research and development efforts. According to two informed sources, earlier this year, OpenAI quietly acquired a small startup named Weights.gg, which specializes in providing AI tools for voice cloning.

The acquisition has not been publicly disclosed, and specific terms of the transaction are currently unknown. Individuals familiar with the matter indicated that OpenAI acquired the company's small team and all intellectual property rights. Weights.gg announced the shutdown of its services in March of this year.

Weights.gg primarily focused on building a platform and community for users to develop and share various AI algorithms. Through its consumer-facing free application, Replay, users could perform operations such as voice cloning.
