US President Donald Trump confirmed that American officials held a "very good" meeting with Iranian representatives, just hours after he threatened to destroy Iran during his UN General Assembly speech. This rare direct engagement between the two nations has rekindled fragile hopes for peace negotiations.

Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday: "The talks lasted three hours, were highly constructive, and they have already scheduled another meeting in the near future."

Apple is developing a screenless health and fitness tracker similar to Whoop's wrist-worn device. According to sources familiar with the matter, the tech giant has been exploring this product category for several months and is currently working on prototypes. The project has backing from senior company leadership, though Apple has not yet decided whether to launch it commercially. The initiative remains in its early stages, internally referred to as a "technology investigation." Even if Apple ultimately moves forward, the device may not hit the market until 2028.

Anthropic and OpenAI each announced new, lower-cost artificial intelligence models on Tuesday, as the two frontier labs continue to face intense competition from cheaper open-weight rivals. OpenAI has introduced additional tiers to its GPT-6 series, namely GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, with API prices reduced by 50% compared to the promotional pricing of GPT-5.6. Meanwhile, Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, the latest addition to its new Claude 5.5 model family. The company describes this newest version as more token-efficient, with operating costs approximately 40% lower than its Opus 5 model.

OpenAI plans to involve third-party organizations in assessing safety risks at an earlier stage of the AI model development cycle, an effort aimed at addressing ongoing concerns about the potential harms of artificial intelligence. The ChatGPT maker announced in a blog post on Tuesday its intention to have external bodies conduct technical safety evaluations during the training, evaluation, and deployment of new AI models. OpenAI also outlined priority areas it believes are necessary for such assessments to be effective, including "robust independent mechanisms, scientific rigor, solid safety practices, and clear accountability." Lama Ahmad, who oversees much of the company's safety review work in collaboration with external experts, noted that previously OpenAI typically brought in these organizations mainly before model release to evaluate capabilities.

Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin warned that inflation shocks may take some time to dissipate, with a risk that persistently elevated price pressures could become entrenched. While outlining the latest economic and monetary policy outlook, Barkin stated that the Fed's recent rate hike will help reduce inflation, but he did not signal whether further policy tightening would be necessary. Instead, he explicitly noted that supply shocks are no longer one-off or temporary events, and price pressures in the economy will persist. "These factors may eventually fade, but it will take time, and during that period, elevated inflation could influence future inflation risks," Barkin said in remarks prepared for an event in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Treasury Secretary Bessent said on Tuesday that the Trump administration is examining whether banning diesel exports could help ease record-high prices for this critical fuel. "We are assessing whether this is feasible given overall refining capacity, and whether a full or partial ban would be effective," Bessent told reporters during a bilateral meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump said a decision on whether to implement an export ban would come "very soon, no matter what," adding that he has already called for a diesel export ban "among his own people."
