Nvidia Corp. experienced a historic trading session on Thursday, boosting its market capitalization by an impressive $442 billion—the second-largest single-day increase ever achieved by any company.
The California-based semiconductor titan saw its shares climb 8.7%, marking its most substantial rally since April 2025, a period when the firm's valuation was under half of its current level. This near-half-trillion-dollar appreciation trails only the $450 billion surge posted by Microsoft Corp. less than a month prior, which followed exceptionally strong quarterly results. Nvidia currently stands as the globe's most valuable enterprise, with a market cap hovering around $5.5 trillion.
The market's enthusiastic response was fueled by an optimistic revenue projection from Nvidia, which alleviated concerns among investors that the artificial intelligence boom might be losing momentum. The company signaled that growth remains robust and ongoing.
Nvidia guided for revenue expansion of approximately 70% in the coming fiscal year, significantly surpassing analyst expectations of around 45% growth. This upside surprise harkened back to the early phases of the AI revolution, which solidified Nvidia's position as the defining stock of this technological era.
According to Bloomberg Intelligence, Nvidia's exceptional guidance "implies more than $100 billion of potential upside to current estimates." Meanwhile, JPMorgan analysts noted that despite the outlook vastly exceeding expectations, it likely remains conservative, as the company "explicitly characterized the outlook as supply-constrained, with unconstrained demand pacing materially higher."
Thursday's market value addition exceeds the total worth of most individual S&P 500 Index constituents, underscoring Nvidia's colossal scale. Given the company's immense size, even modest percentage movements translate into market cap fluctuations worth tens of billions of dollars.
Prior to Microsoft's recent achievement, Nvidia had claimed the record for the largest one-day market cap gain when it added $440 billion following President Donald Trump's announcement of a 90-day tariff pause in April of the previous year.
The company also holds the unfortunate distinction of recording the biggest single-day market cap loss in history, when nearly $600 billion was erased in one session amid worries sparked by China's DeepSeek AI model.
