Shanxi Lucheng District: Golden Millet Ears Signal a Bountiful Harvest

Deep News10-31 15:20

On October 25, in the millet base of Caozhuang Village, Xin'anquan Town, Lucheng District, Changzhi City, golden millet ears bent the stalks low, and the fields were bustling with activity.

Farmers rushed to harvest the millet, thresh and bundle the ears, stack them in piles, and clean up leftover ears, working hard to build a grassroots defense line for food security through their dedicated efforts.

"This year, the millet in the village received full refined management throughout the growing period, and the crop is growing very well, with a yield of about 600 jin per mu," said Chen Peng, Party Secretary of Caozhuang Village, standing in the golden fields, his words filled with the joy of harvest.

In recent years, Caozhuang Village has deeply cultivated the millet specialty industry. Jobs have been created at every stage—planting and harvesting, drying and storage, deep processing, and packaging and sales—not only absorbing local labor but also radiating to drive nearby villagers to work close to home.

"First I come to the field to cut millet ears for two days, then after cutting the ears I go to process millet and pack products, earning 60 yuan a day," said villager Fang Yanfu with a smile.

How to transform the field's "good harvest" into villagers' "good income"? In the past, local farmers mostly sold raw millet grain directly, with limited profit margins. Through village collective coordination, Caozhuang Village has achieved standardized processing, branded packaging, and diversified sales of millet, upgrading the value of millet.

Ripe millet, after manual harvesting and natural drying, is uniformly transported to the village collective processing center. After multiple processes such as standardized hulling, fine impurity removal, and graded screening, high-quality, original-ecology premium millet is obtained.

The village has also opened up channels such as offline supermarkets, supply and marketing cooperative outlets, and online e-commerce platforms, building a diversified sales system that allows local millet to leave the countryside and reach the market directly.

Today, golden grains of millet have become a shining calling card of local specialty agriculture, empowering and enhancing rural revitalization.

"We will continue to optimize millet quality, polish the brand of local agricultural products, and let the heavy millet ears become the 'wealth ears' of our fellow villagers," said Chen Peng.
