Bank of Communications President Zhang Baojiang Advocates for Simplified, Customer-Centric Banking

At the 2026 Lujiazui Forum, Bank of Communications President Zhang Baojiang delivered a speech during the plenary session focused on enhancing the effectiveness and precision of inclusive finance.

Zhang Baojiang emphasized the need to approach services from the customer's perspective, making financial offerings more aligned with client needs.

He noted that traditional banks have historically operated like product shelves, offering a vast array of items and simply selling what was available. This resulted in a confusing multitude of products, difficult for both businesses to understand and even for bank staff to fully explain. Within the inclusive finance product line alone, there were over a hundred different varieties, leading to a poor customer experience during the matching process.

He introduced that the bank is now vigorously integrating and consolidating these offerings, aiming to streamline multiple codes into one. Customers can scan a code, and the service will adapt to their needs across different scenarios, making the service more precise.

"Our insight is to let the bank handle the complex tasks, keeping them in the background, and leave the simple tasks to the customer. We are shifting in this direction," stated Zhang Baojiang.
