Foreign holdings of US government debt saw a significant decline in June, according to data released by the US Treasury Department on Monday, with Japan recording the largest reduction while Canada, Singapore, and India increased their positions.
Overseas holdings fell to approximately $9.3 trillion in June.
The month-over-month decrease totaled $72.1 billion, marking the sharpest drop since March.
These figures encompass net sales, purchases, and valuation adjustments.
Japan, the largest holder of US Treasuries globally, reduced its stake by $26.4 billion during the month, bringing its total to $1.12 trillion.
Meanwhile, Canada, whose transactions can sometimes be volatile, added $23.8 billion to its portfolio.
