On July 8th, the National Science and Technology Awards ceremony was held with great significance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. A project titled "Key Technologies and Applications for Ultra-Long Haul Optical Communication in Extreme Environments," which was completed with the participation of Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co.,Ltd. (ASX: 600522)'s Chief Engineer Xie Shuhong, was honored with the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award. This marks the second time that Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co.,Ltd. has received this distinguished accolade.
This project, a collaborative effort by teams including Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Jiangsu Zhongtian Technology Co.,Ltd., concentrated on the requirements for ultra-long distance optical communication in extreme conditions. It achieved significant breakthroughs in core mechanisms, critical equipment, and engineering applications, culminating in a complete, independently controllable technological framework.
Currently, the related achievements are operating stably within the existing networks of telecommunications operators and have been extensively deployed across China's plateau regions and surrounding maritime areas, providing effective support for the nation's information infrastructure development.
During the project's execution, Xie Shuhong proposed a low-loss optical cable structure resistant to extreme environments, along with methods for the precise control of high-strength materials and long-distance continuous manufacturing. These innovations enhanced the tensile strength, high compression resistance, and low-temperature tolerance of power communication optical fibers, cables, and submarine cables.
About the National Science and Technology Awards
The National Science and Technology Awards represent the highest-level scientific and technological honors established by the State Council. For the 2025 awards, a total of 258 projects and 11 scientific experts were selected.
