Yu Minhong: Some Call Me "Old Codger," But I Don't Think I Qualify

During the 2026 Chongli Forum, New Oriental founder Yu Minhong stated, "What has likely drawn considerable attention recently is New Oriental文旅 (Cultural Tourism). New Oriental文旅 was originally designed for all age groups; for instance, over 100,000 children annually now participate in our global study tours and educational travels. As the business evolved, it naturally extended to the elderly demographic, which is why everyone has recently seen the establishment of the New Oriental Retirement Club."

He further expressed, "I am somewhat an elderly person myself now. Some people criticize me as an 'old codger,' but I feel I don't quite measure up to that title. The most fundamental characteristic of an 'old codger' is incessantly lecturing the younger generation. In contrast, I now regard the younger generation with a sense of reverence, because this world is being created by them. Today, I hardly dare to speak too much, as there are so many young people present who have a deep understanding of artificial intelligence and the future development of the world. As the saying goes, 'The world is ours, but it is ultimately yours.' Listening to the insights and feelings from people of my generation is actually already falling behind the times, let alone in this era of rapid technological advancement."
