Premium Laptop Display Panel Market Set to Grow 11% in 2026 as OLED Adoption Accelerates

Stock News10-09 11:54

According to the latest High-End IT Display Panel Shipment and Technology Report from Counterpoint Research, the premium notebook display panel market, which includes OLED and MiniLED, is projected to grow 11% year-over-year in 2026.

By contrast, the overall notebook display panel market is expected to decline 3% year-over-year, weighed down by persistently rising memory costs and higher bill-of-materials (BoM) expenses for finished devices.

OLED continues to capture a larger share of the premium notebook market

OLED notebook display panel shipments are forecast to surge 50% year-over-year in 2026, followed by an additional 24% increase in 2027.

Apple's next-generation MacBook Pro models are expected to adopt OLED panels, and growing demand for premium AI PCs is likely to jointly drive this growth trend.

Meanwhile, MiniLED notebook display panel shipments are projected to fall 38% year-over-year in 2026 and decline a further 60% in 2027.

This trend reflects manufacturers' increasing preference for OLED technology as its advantages in slim design, image quality, and cost competitiveness become more apparent.

Performance improvements and expanded production scale bolster OLED development

Several technological advances are expected to enhance OLED's appeal and improve its production economics:

Tandem OLED architecture can deliver higher brightness, better energy efficiency, and longer panel lifespan.

Next-generation manufacturing technologies are expected to boost material utilization, improve production yields, and increase manufacturing efficiency, including Visionox's Intelligent Pixelization technology (ViP) and LG Display's FLiPP (FMM-less Innovative Pixel Patterning) technology.

The commercialization of phosphorescent blue OLED emissive materials is expected to improve overall panel energy efficiency and reduce power consumption.

The scaling of 8.7-generation oxide backplane production is expected to lower manufacturing costs and drive broader adoption of OLED technology in the notebook market.

Growth expected to continue through 2030

Counterpoint Research remains optimistic about the notebook OLED market, projecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26% for OLED notebook panel shipments and 35% for revenue between 2024 and 2030.

Revenue growing faster than shipments indicates that the average value per panel is expected to rise during the forecast period, with the overall market scale expanding significantly.

David Naranjo, Vice President at Counterpoint Research, said: "Growth in the OLED notebook market will increasingly depend on translating advances in panel performance and manufacturing processes into products that are both appealing and price-competitive. Apple's anticipated adoption of OLED technology, along with demand for premium AI PCs, is expected to accelerate the near-term transition. At the same time, improvements in energy efficiency, panel lifespan, and production scale will provide strong support for broad adoption through 2030."
