A first-grader from Heze's Juye County Experimental Primary School has captured widespread admiration after promptly returning a bag of valuable gold ornaments he stumbled upon near a shop.
The seven-year-old, Li Yunhao, recounted the discovery to us, explaining that as he headed to the corner store for a snack, he noticed a bag resting next to a bicycle. He picked it up and brought it home. When he showed his mother, she was taken aback. Though she hadn't yet grasped the full worth of the gold, she had frequently taught her son that such items are precious and should never be claimed as one's own. She pointed to her own jewelry on the dresser as an example, warning him that losing them would be a great pity and that he must never touch them or take anything valuable that isn't his.
After finding the parcel, Li Yunhao's mother guided him outside, where they encountered a frantic individual hunting for a lost item. The boy's brother mentioned they had found something, and the woman, seeing a glimmer of hope, quickly revealed she had lost a gold ring, gold bracelets, and gold fragments. To confirm her identity, the mother did not hand over the items immediately. Instead, she asked for a description of the bag and its contents. The woman accurately described a transparent package and even showed photos of the jewelry on her phone, matching every detail. Only then did she retrieve the bag and return the gold. When she asked her son what they should do, he answered without hesitation, "Of course we give it back! It's not ours, so we have to return it."
The loss weighed heavily on the owner, as the nearly 50 grams of gold carried deep personal significance. Overjoyed, she repeatedly thanked the family and later presented a banner at Li Yunhao's school. His homeroom teacher, Shi, noted that the event unfolded right at the school gate's shop and drew plenty of attention. "We were all relieved the owner got her things back. Li Yunhao is a lively, cheerful kid, so we're not surprised he acted so honestly," she said. To celebrate his good deed, the school issued a citation and the principal handed him an honorary certificate. His mother, reflecting on the moment, said, "We often see such stories in the news, but never imagined it would happen to our own boy." As for Li Yunhao, he simply told us, "I'd do the same thing again if it ever happens."
