On May 1st, the first day of the Labor Day holiday, a significant travel peak was observed. As of 9:10 AM, sections of the provincial expressways around Chengdu under the jurisdiction of the First Branch of the Sichuan Expressway Police have experienced traffic saturation and continuous queuing due to concentrated outbound traffic. Based on real-time road conditions, the main congested sections are as follows:
G76 Xiarong Expressway (Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway): Slow traffic is reported on the outbound direction near the Second Ring Road interchange. G42 Hurong Expressway (Chengdu-Nanchong Expressway): The outbound section from Luosiba Interchange to Fuhong Interchange and towards Qingquan is continuously saturated with noticeable slow-moving traffic. G5 Jingkun Expressway (Chengdu-Ya'an Expressway): Dense traffic and persistent queuing are occurring on the outbound direction in the Shuangliu and Xinjin sections. G4215 Rongzun Expressway (Chengdu-Zigong-Luzhou Expressway): Slow traffic is reported on the outbound direction in the E'ershan Tunnel area and the Wengong section. G4217 Rongchang Expressway (Chengdu-Guanxian Expressway): Due to holiday travel to destinations like Dujiangyan and Qingcheng Mountain, some sections are experiencing continuous slow-moving traffic. S2 Chengba Expressway: Slow traffic is reported on the outbound direction in the Yundingshan Tunnel section. G5013 Yurong Expressway (Chengdu-Anshun-Chongqing Expressway): Slow traffic is affecting the outbound direction in the Longquanshan Tunnel section and near the Second Ring Road interchange. S3 Tianfu Airport Expressway: Slow traffic is reported on the outbound direction in the Longquanshan Tunnel section. Chengdu Second Ring Expressway (SA2) and Chengdu Third Ring Expressway (SA3 Chengdu Metropolitan Area Ring Expressway): Interchanges connecting with main provincial expressways around Chengdu (such as Qingbaijiang, Dujiangyan, Chongzhou, Xinjin, Jianyang, Jintang, etc.) are experiencing heavy merging traffic. Overflow from the main routes is causing slow queues during peak hours.
Temporary traffic controls, including flow restrictions and diversions, will be dynamically implemented on the currently congested sections based on real-time traffic conditions. Drivers are advised to plan their routes in advance, avoiding peak hours and sections prone to congestion. Before traveling, check real-time road conditions via Sichuan Traffic Radio 101.7 FM, map navigation apps, the WeChat public account of the First Branch of the Sichuan Expressway Police, or electronic display boards at urban and expressway entrances to consider traveling during off-peak times.
The First Branch of the Sichuan Expressway Police reminds the public that light rain is currently affecting Chengdu and surrounding areas, leading to wet and slippery road surfaces and reduced visibility. When driving in rain, remember to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance, and ensure tail lights are on. Use lights properly, slow down early when approaching waterlogged areas, and avoid sudden braking or sharp steering. In congested sections, proceed in an orderly queue and refrain from cutting in line or making illegal lane changes to help maintain a safe and smooth expressway environment. For emergencies or assistance on the expressway, call 96122.
