Bitcoin closed out the trading week on Friday with a remarkable 22% gain, following a series of encouraging developments for the world's largest cryptocurrency. The digital asset climbed 6% during the day's session to settle at $76,943.90, a substantial jump from its opening price of roughly $62,800 at the start of the week. This momentum also lifted cryptocurrency-related equities, with Coinbase advancing 8% and Strategy rising 6% in tandem.
The rally was ignited on Wednesday when Treasury yields took a sharp downturn after the U.S. Treasury Department announced a significant intervention in the bond market, a move that helped alleviate pressure on risk-sensitive assets. This triggered a broader influx of capital into the cryptocurrency space, and the upswing was subsequently amplified by a massive short squeeze. According to data from CoinGlass, approximately $2.7 billion worth of short positions in the crypto market were forcefully liquidated during the surge.
Max Stuedlein, Head of Partnerships for the Asia-Pacific region at Sygnum, noted that Bitcoin's price action reflects a convergence of both macroeconomic and policy-related catalysts. "The Treasury's decision to double down on its buyback program for long-dated government bonds was aimed at addressing concerns over long-term yield levels. Borrowing costs had been climbing due to worries about the U.S. debt load and the partial crowding-out effect caused by issuance from hyperscale corporates," he explained.
Investor sentiment received an additional boost on Thursday, driven largely by a late-stage push from the White House and industry leaders to advance the CLARITY bill through Congress in the coming weeks. The legislation is widely viewed as a potentially pivotal catalyst that could pull the market out of the crypto winter that began last autumn. However, analysts note that the bill's chances of passing appear relatively slim at this juncture.
Despite the recent rebound, Bitcoin remains well below the 2026 high of $94,820 reached in mid-January, and significantly off its all-time peak of $126,198 recorded on October 6 of last year. The current price action suggests the market is still navigating a corrective phase, even as short-term momentum turns bullish.
Lucy Gazmararian, Founder and Managing Partner at Token Bay Capital, stated on Friday that the cryptocurrency market is approaching the tail end of its bear cycle. "We anticipate one final shakeout, potentially another 20% decline, which would be consistent with historical cyclical patterns," she said. "The market had been heavily leveraged to the downside, and those shorts have now been eliminated. So I believe this is what the market expects. Participants are well-versed in Bitcoin's cycles and are positioning themselves in the final months before a potential regime shift."
She urged Bitcoin investors to remain committed to their long-term investment thesis, describing the asset as a hedge against currency debasement. "However, in the short term, it largely fluctuates along these cyclical lines because it remains a highly volatile asset," she added. "This makes it an excellent arena for traders, and we now have a wide array of tools available to take positions in both directions on Bitcoin."
