Duan Yongping Suggests Kweichow Moutai Should Consider Annual Moderate Price Increases of 5%-8%

On February 3, renowned investor Duan Yongping stated on social media that, 'According to reports, in just one month, the i Moutai platform system has successfully blocked 540 million instances of various abnormal behaviors.' This essentially indicates that individuals are using software to snatch orders, making it very difficult for ordinary people to purchase. Technically, there might be solutions, such as preventing the same person (IP address) from buying twice within a month. Furthermore, if the rush to buy continues (at the current price point, I estimate it could last the entire year), Kweichow Moutai should perhaps consider implementing an annual moderate price increase, for instance, raising prices by 5% to 8% each year? Moutai possesses the pricing power, but this ability was previously eroded by price gaps and counterfeit products.

In response, some netizens commented: "A 5% annual increase would likely result in a very low open-bottle rate. All sorts of people would buy it to hoard and wait for appreciation. An annual increase of around 1% would be relatively more reasonable."

Duan Yongping further explained: "1% is too little; it should at least keep pace with inflation. Annual moderate price increases are much better than raising prices drastically every few years. In the past, Moutai typically increased prices every several years; I believe that approach seems more cumbersome. Determining the right amount to increase requires exploration; perhaps an annual increase of 3% to 5% might be more suitable? Regardless, the increase should match the inflation rate—too much or too little might be inappropriate."

Duan Yongping also mentioned that one ton equates to 2,000 bottles, so 100 tons is 200,000 bottles. He guessed that Moutai's daily production is roughly around 250,000 bottles. After the New Year, it is highly probable that many people will continue to rush to buy because they will want to drink it again next year. Buying early also allows for longer storage, potentially improving the taste over time. The sale of 53-degree Feitian Moutai on the i Moutai platform has indeed resolved the company's most significant underlying concern.
