Yum China Holdings, Inc. (HKEX: 09987) saw its shares climb more than 4% in early trading, with the stock last up 3.47% at HK$358.20, on a trading volume of HK$134 million.
The company is set to release its quarterly financial results on Thursday, July 30, with market attention focused on the integration progress following its recent acquisition.
On June 16, Yum China announced it had signed a definitive agreement with Yum! Global to acquire full ownership of the Pizza Hut brand in mainland China for US$1.2 billion in cash. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026.
Guangdong Securities noted that the acquisition of Pizza Hut's mainland China rights is likely to boost Yum China's earnings. By transitioning from an exclusive franchisee to a brand owner, the company will gain greater strategic flexibility to drive innovation in menu offerings, store formats, new modules, and operational management. Additionally, eliminating the requirement to pay franchise fees to Yum! is expected to improve store-level economics and lower the barrier to new store openings.
Furthermore, the KFC franchise agreement offers room for optimization, potentially providing financial incentives in the future.
