US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal said on November 7 that he will introduce legislation backing Ukraine, calling on Washington to appoint new negotiators to take part in peace talks and urging Congress to place Starlink and Starshield under public-interest oversight.
In a post on X, he stated: "President Trump needs new negotiators. Congress must take the lead and act immediately."
The United States has dispatched special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to join trilateral and bilateral talks involving Russia and Ukraine, with many of those meetings held in Moscow.
Blumenthal also called for additional measures to aid Ukraine and penalize Russia, in order to push Putin to the negotiating table.
"After the election, the momentum for supporting Ukraine is in our favor, and we must act at once — restore the sanctions Trump waived, halt his terrible diesel deal, provide military assistance, especially air defense equipment, and take other necessary steps to apply pressure and push Putin to engage seriously in peace negotiations."
