European energy shares opened higher, with oil prices climbing as market concerns grew that escalating hostilities between Iran and the United States could threaten energy supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The tit-for-tat exchanges have driven Brent crude futures up 3.3% to $90.97 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude rose 1% to $78.46 per barrel.
In the London market, BP shares advanced 1.2%, while Shell gained 0.5%. Spain's Repsol, Norway's Equinor, and France's TotalEnergies all rose approximately 1.7%. Italy's Eni increased by 1.4%.
