Recently, JD.com's delivery of New Year goods to the villagers of Guangming Village in Lailong Town, Suqian City, has once again captured widespread public attention. Guangming Village Party Secretary Zhang Gui stated in an interview that, bolstered by JD.com's traffic support and industrial investments, the village now consistently attracts tourists from outside the region, boosting the local cultural tourism sector. Furthermore, an increasing number of young people are choosing to return to the village to start businesses or seek employment, leading to a 100% employment rate for the working-age labor force.
This transformation in the small village of Guangming is reflective of the profound changes that have occurred across the entirety of Suqian City in recent years. To date, JD.com has invested in over ten physical and key cooperative projects in Suqian, with cumulative fixed-asset investments exceeding 20 billion yuan, directly and indirectly creating over 100,000 local jobs. Behind these impressive figures lies not just a "two-way commitment" between a private enterprise and a city, but a vivid example of the "enterprise-city symbiosis" model in the new era.
A solid industrial foundation is crucial for urban prosperity and strength. JD.com's empowerment of Suqian is first demonstrated through substantial, tangible investments in hard assets. Physical projects spanning customer service, logistics, cloud computing, and AI computing power act as sturdy cornerstones, establishing a robust framework for Suqian's digital economy industry.
It is reported that in Suyu District, the three campuses of the JD.com Customer Service Center represent a total investment of over 6 billion yuan. Among them, the JD.com Smart City in Campus 3 stands as one of the largest single-structure e-commerce platform call centers in China. The JD Logistics Asia No. 1 Suqian Suyu Intelligent Industrial Park is also located here; through its intelligent sorting center and unmanned warehouse, it achieves a 90% rate of same-day or next-day deliveries. In the Hubin New District, the JD Cloud East China Data Center, with a total investment of 8 billion yuan, boasts the capacity to operate 300,000 servers. The JD Cloud (Suqian) AI Big Data Intelligent Processing Center holds over 4,200 AI-related patents, providing powerful computing support for the regional digital economy's development.
These projects are not mere examples of "enclave economy" but are deeply rooted "industrial landmarks." From a global customer service center to a global training base, and from an intelligent logistics dispatch center to an AI big data processing center, JD.com continuously infuses Suqian with core resources, cutting-edge technology, and management expertise, propelling the local transformation from a traditional agricultural city to a hub for the digital economy.
If heavy asset investment represents a "blood transfusion," then building a comprehensive talent cultivation system and employment ecosystem is about enabling the city to achieve "self-hematopoiesis." The key to JD.com's empowerment of Suqian lies not in the one-time investment figure, but in the creation of sustainable employment opportunities and pathways for talent growth.
Reports indicate that, so far, JD.com's physical projects in Suqian directly employ over 20,000 people. This includes 6,845 employees at JD Logistics in Suqian, more than 13,000 personnel stationed at JD.com Smart City, and over 1,500 employees at the AI Big Data Processing Center. More importantly, the JD.com Global Training Base provides annual training for approximately 20,000 individuals, meeting not only the company's own talent needs but also supplying skilled professionals to the entire industry. This shift from "labor force" to "skilled talent" vividly embodies the principle that "talent is the primary resource."
This "hematopoietic" empowerment is even more pronounced in areas concerning people's livelihoods. The JD.com Internet Hospital (Suyu Hospital), as JD Group's first offline hospital nationwide, allows local residents to access expert services from Beijing and Shanghai without leaving the city. The JD.com Home Economics Training Center has trained over 300 employees, introducing high-end home services to Suqian. Furthermore, since last year, JD.com has continuously explored new business formats, with Suqian serving as the initial testing ground for many of these ventures.
Last August, JD.com's discount supermarket chain made a grand entrance into Suqian City with the simultaneous opening of four stores. On opening day, each location was bustling with crowds, attracting large numbers of consumers who queued up for purchases. Local data showed that these four stores collectively served over 300,000 customers in a single day, not only boosting Suqian's "first-release" economy but also injecting new vitality into the local consumer market. At that time, JD.com's discount supermarkets had only opened five stores across the entire country.
This comprehensive layout, extending from the "production line" to the "living circle," demonstrates the synchronization between enterprise development and the improvement of people's livelihoods. By enhancing residents' quality of life through supporting services in healthcare, retail, and more, it achieves a positive interaction between economic development and social construction.
With a stable industrial foundation and a formed talent pipeline, deeper-level changes are underway. The cooperation between JD.com and Suqian has evolved from simple project investment to the co-creation of a digital ecosystem, engaging in forward-looking exploration in areas such as cultivating new quality productive forces and innovating urban governance.
On the technological innovation front, it is reported that JD.com's National Intelligent Logistics Dispatch and Operations Center currently operates 10 unmanned aerial vehicle routes and 19 unmanned ground vehicles routinely, with picking and handling efficiency in unmanned warehouses increasing more than fourfold. The intelligent connected vehicle project will deploy vehicles in three phases, with the ultimate goal of achieving full-area, all-time routine demonstration operations within the urban district. Additionally, the JD.com AI Digital Human R&D Center has been established in the Hubin New District.
In terms of institutional innovation, the collaboration has also yielded significant results. The Suqian Internet Court, the fourth of its kind nationally and the first in Northern Jiangsu, has established a new governance framework for internet-related disputes integrating "judiciary + technology + governance." Data collection operations have set up 12 collection scenarios, amassing data resources for future industries like embodied intelligent robots. The JD.com Suqian Bonded Warehouse further promotes innovation in cross-border e-commerce models, and the JD.com Global Cross-Border Experience Store (Suqian Pavilion) became the first of its kind in East China.
Over more than a decade of shared journey, from an initial customer service center to a multi-dimensional industrial ecosystem encompassing R&D, operations, training, healthcare, judiciary, and intelligent driving, this path of "enterprise-city symbiosis" testifies to the boundless possibilities of deep integration between the digital economy and the real economy. Looking ahead, as JD.com continues to increase its strategic investments in Suqian, this emerging city in the Huaihai Economic Zone is poised to accelerate its journey on the "express train" of high-quality development.
