NVIDIA's venture capital arm, NVentures, has invested in Swedish AI legal technology company Legora, which is valued at $5.6 billion. The chip giant is continuing to increase its global investments in startup companies. Legora revealed on Thursday that NVIDIA participated in a $50 million top-up investment for its Series D funding round. Following this addition, the total amount raised in Legora's Series D round has reached $600 million, after an initial closing was completed in March. Other participants in this top-up round included Atlassian, Adams Street Partners, and Insight Partners.
Investors are flocking to promising young AI companies, betting on their potential to reshape industry landscapes and deliver significant efficiency gains. In recent years, NVIDIA has consistently increased its startup investments, aiming to deepen ties with the world's most promising companies by offering not just capital but also technical expertise and supply chain assistance. According to data from Dealroom, this marks NVIDIA's first investment within the legal technology sector. The specific investment amount was not disclosed.
Legora is developing AI agents and tools designed to help lawyers automate and streamline their workflows. The company launched an advertising campaign this month featuring actor Jude Law, with the tagline: "The law has never been this attractive." Legora's Co-founder and CEO, Max Junestrand, stated in a release: "Enterprise AI is entering a new phase. Foundational models are advancing rapidly, but the real breakthrough lies in the application—AI is no longer just an assistant; it performs tasks autonomously under appropriate human oversight. With support from our investors and clients, we are building a comprehensive agent operating system for legal work."
While U.S. AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic raised substantial capital in 2026, Legora is among the European tech companies setting fundraising records. Dealroom data shows that European AI startups have raised $15.1 billion so far this year, putting them on track to potentially surpass the $21.6 billion raised in the entirety of 2025. Amid this investment surge, global funding for legal tech companies utilizing AI reached $3.7 billion in 2025. If the fundraising momentum from the first five months of this year continues, 2026 is projected to see roughly similar levels.
In March, coinciding with Legora's major funding round, its U.S. competitor Harvey raised $200 million at an $11 billion valuation. Over the past year, Legora's team has expanded from 40 people to 400, with staff located in Stockholm, London, New York, Denver, Sydney, and Bangalore. The company stated that its Annual Recurring Revenue recently surpassed $100 million. It currently serves tens of thousands of legal professionals within the legal departments of large corporations like Barclays, as well as top law firms including White & Case, HSFK, and Linklaters.
