On January 23, the three major A-share indices continued to fluctuate after opening. As of 10:33, the Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.04%, the Shenzhen Component Index was down 0.04%, and the ChiNext Index was down 0.36%. Over 3,200 companies across the market recorded gains.
Sector-wise, the photovoltaic concept and precious metals concept saw significant gains, while GPU, optical module, and rare earth concepts led the declines.
In terms of market hotspots, the space photovoltaic concept experienced a major breakout today. The Wind Space Photovoltaic Index surged over 7%, with numerous constituent stocks hitting their upper trading limits. Suzhou Maxwell Technologies Co.,Ltd. and Wuxi Autowell Technology Co.,Ltd. surged by the 20% daily limit, while Shenzhen S.C New Energy Technology Corporation, Zhejiang Jingsheng Mechanical&Electrical Co.,Ltd., Jolywood(Suzhou)Sunwatt Co.,Ltd., and Trina Solar Co.,Ltd. all rose over 10%. Shenzhen Topraysolar Co.,Ltd., Cecep Solar Energy Co.,Ltd., Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Limited, Hainan Drinda New Energy Technology Co.,Ltd., Shanghai Aiko Solar Energy Co.,Ltd., and Hangzhou First Applied Material Co.,Ltd. all reached their upper trading limits. A research report released by Huaxi Securities on the 22nd introduced that space photovoltaic energy refers to the utilization of solar photovoltaic technology to capture and supply energy in extraterrestrial environments such as space orbit and the moon. This energy is transmitted wirelessly directly to the ground or used to power facilities like satellites, space stations, and space data centers. It has become a strategic frontier solution for commercial aerospace and high-end applications (such as space computing, data centers, future lunar bases, etc.), and space photovoltaics is approaching its inflection point.
The research report elaborated that in space, traditional fossil fuels suffer from critical flaws like high storage risks and difficult resupply, while nuclear energy faces challenges such as high technical complexity and stringent safety controls, making large-scale application difficult. In contrast, photovoltaic technology directly converts solar energy into electricity, possessing core advantages of sustainability, stability, and lightweight design, making it perfectly suited for energy demands in the extreme environment of space.
SpaceX has currently determined the P-type HJT cell technology route as the path for the large-scale, economically viable mass production of space solar cells. According to a new energy think tank, SpaceX began testing tens of thousands of P-type HJT cells starting in 2023. A consensus has essentially been reached within the industry that perovskite tandem cells will become the mainstream technology path for future space photovoltaics.
In other hotspots, the precious metals and industrial metals concepts surged significantly. Jiangxi Geto New Materials Corporation Limited rose by the 20% daily limit, while Western Metal Materials Co.,Ltd., Huludao Zinc Industry Co.,Ltd., Henan Yuguang Gold&Lead Co.,Ltd., and Baiyin Nonferrous Group Co.,Ltd. all hit their upper trading limits. Hunan Silver, Shengda Resources, Sichuan Gold, and Guiyan Platinum followed with gains.
On January 23, spot gold continued its upward climb, reaching a high exceeding $4,967 per ounce during the session, setting a new all-time record high. Spot silver saw its gains widen intraday, rising nearly 3% at its peak to hit a record high of $99.01 per ounce, coming within a step of the $100 per ounce mark. After rebounding and rising in recent days, the commercial aerospace concept surged again today, with the Wind Commercial Aerospace Theme Index climbing over 7%. Aerospace Electronics and Aerospace Huanyu rose over 8%, while China Satellite rose over 7%.
On the decline side, the GPU concept, which had risen sharply in the past two days, experienced some adjustment. Loongson Technology, Hygon Information, and VeriSilicon Microelectronics saw relatively large declines. Moore Thread, MetaX, and Cambricon also underwent adjustments.
Within the optical module concept, Sunwave Technology fell over 5%, Zhongji Innolight dropped over 4.5%, and TFC Optical Communication declined over 3%. Optowide, Dexin, Lightcomm Technology, Dongshan Precision, TSC, and Longchip Borui were among the top decliners.
