AI Evolution from Tool to Partner: Meitu Design Lead on Precision and Usability

Deep News07-31

At the China International Digital Entertainment Industry Conference (CDEC) summit, Xu Jun, Vice President of Meitu and Head of the Design Center, delivered a keynote speech.

Xu Jun stated that as AI generation capabilities become less of a scarce resource, true industry competitiveness lies in "precision control" and "ease of use." "AI is very obedient, but understanding instructions is difficult," Xu Jun said. The real value of AI imaging products is not just in generating results based on commands, but in integrating AI into the actual creative workflow, lowering the barrier so that ordinary users can accomplish image processing tasks that previously required professional expertise.

According to Xu Jun, to address these pain points, MEITU is reconstructing the image creation process through AI, covering both image and video domains. Using Wink as an example, traditional video refinement typically requires professionals to adjust frame by frame. However, Wink uses AI to achieve frame-by-frame video refinement, where users only need to modify the effect of a single frame, and the AI automatically extends it to the entire video.

In Xu Jun's view, as AI capabilities gradually integrate into the entire image creation process, MEITU is committed to embedding complex technical abilities into a product experience that is both precisely controllable and simple to use, evolving AI from "being obedient" to "understanding needs."

Currently, MEITU has formed an AI product matrix covering scenarios such as images, videos, and design. As the innovation engine for MEITU's AI imaging products, the latest Meitu Qixiang Large Model possesses professional visual decision-making capabilities, supporting multimodal input in text, images, video, and audio. Combined with MEITU's deep accumulation in user understanding and aesthetic preferences, it can accurately understand user intent, with designers conducting aesthetic calibration to optimize AI product effects.

Xu Jun noted that as model capabilities continue to iterate, MEITU aims to continuously drive breakthroughs in AI imaging in terms of generation quality, accurate understanding, and creative controllability, allowing ordinary users to easily unleash their creative inspiration and enjoy the productivity revolution brought by AI.
