INNOGEN-B Shares Surge Over 17% Following NMPA Approval for Adolescent Weight Loss Trial of Esupaglutide α

Stock News06-23

Shares of INNOGEN-B (02591) are currently trading sharply higher, with gains exceeding 17%. At the time of writing, the stock is up 14.03% to HK$8.94, with a trading turnover of HK$45.71 million.

The significant upward movement follows an announcement from the company regarding its proprietary drug candidate. INNOGEN-B has received approval from the National Medical Products Administration to initiate a Phase Ib clinical trial for its long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist, Esupaglutide α injection, in adolescents aged 12 to 17 who are obese or overweight with related complications.

The clinical trial is expected to commence in July 2026 and aims to enroll approximately 36 participants. Public information indicates that Esupaglutide α has already demonstrated promising weight reduction effects and an acceptable safety profile in adult populations with obesity.

Given its established mechanism of action and the clinical data from adult weight management studies, there is a solid scientific rationale for extending the drug's development to the adolescent obesity demographic. It is noted that Esupaglutide α has already secured approval in Mainland China and Macau for treating adult type 2 diabetes.

Furthermore, results from the Phase IIb ENLIGHT clinical study in China for the treatment of overweight/obesity are scheduled to be presented at the 86th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association in 2026.
