A freight train loaded with 35 containers carrying nearly 1,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride departed slowly from Shuangzhai Station on May 27 at 10:30 AM.
This marks the first international train to depart in a full formation from Shuangzhai, China, destined for Vietnam.
The launch signifies a major breakthrough in establishing a direct rail link from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to ASEAN markets for locally produced goods.
This new route is expected to provide a significant boost to the development of the region's export-oriented economy.
The train service was jointly organized by China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group Co., Ltd., the Qinghai Provincial Department of Commerce, and China Railway Multimodal Transport Qinghai-Tibet Branch.
The route will pass through several stations including Haishiwan, Yangmu, Xiushan, and Yatunbao before exiting China via the Pingxiang port and arriving at its final destination, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Shuangzhai Logistics Base is Qinghai Province's only operational second-tier logistics base.
It is strategically positioned to serve Qinghai, secure the Qinghai-Tibet region, extend its reach across western China and Central Asia, and connect to ASEAN markets.
An official from China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group stated that the train consists of 35 container cars and operates on an all-rail transport model.
This approach significantly reduces transit times and effectively lowers comprehensive logistics costs for businesses.
It establishes a stable and efficient cross-border logistics channel for Qinghai's advantageous products, such as salt lake chemicals and new materials, to access Southeast Asian markets.
Given the high standards and specialized nature of this train service, the company established a dedicated task force.
This team is responsible for coordinating transport capacity, optimizing the routing, standardizing operational procedures, and assigning professionals to oversee the entire process.
Oversight includes cargo acceptance, container and wagon allocation, and loading and securing, providing customers with a one-stop, full-chain logistics service to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Qinghai Province serves as a vital corridor connecting the Eurasian Land Bridge and a key transportation hub for northwestern and southwestern China.
In recent years, China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group, in collaboration with the Qinghai Provincial Department of Commerce, has been working to normalize the operation of international freight trains.
These routes now reach Europe, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Central Asia, facilitating the export of local specialty products like soda ash, PVC, and goji berries.
Moving forward, the company plans to operate regular international freight services to Southeast Asia and Central Asia.
It will collaborate with professional logistics firms to develop customized transport solutions, diversify cargo types, and expand the scale of train operations.
The goal is to develop the Shuangzhai Logistics Base into a cross-border logistics hub that connects domestic and international markets.
This effort aims to enhance the brand of the international train "express service" and contribute to the qualitative upgrade of Qinghai's export-oriented economy and the high-quality development of the regional economy.
