Ant Group Co., Ltd. backed artificial intelligence database firm OceanBase is reportedly in talks with investors to raise approximately 2 billion to 3 billion yuan in a Series A funding round, according to sources familiar with the matter. The capital injection is intended to accelerate business expansion.
Founded in 2010, OceanBase was initially developed to support Ant Group's internal database management, capable of processing 500,000 transactions per second during high-volume events like shopping festivals. The company now generates an annualized revenue exceeding $200 million (approximately HK$1.56 billion) as of 2026, representing a 70% year-on-year increase.
OceanBase is currently enhancing its AI analytical capabilities, moving beyond structured data integration to improve its capacity for handling semi-structured and unstructured data, including video content. According to the company's website, its client base spans financial services, government administration, telecommunications, retail, and internet sectors, with operations already expanding into Southeast Asia, Japan, India, and Latin America.
