Since the start of the 2025 winter-spring flight season, Shanghai International Airport Co.,Ltd. has actively facilitated new and additional cargo routes for domestic and international carriers. Within just over ten days, the airport has witnessed a wave of route expansions, covering regions such as North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, injecting new momentum into Shanghai's development as an international air cargo hub.
The connectivity of the cargo hub continues to improve. On October 26, Air China Cargo resumed its Shanghai-Los Angeles cargo route, operating seven weekly flights to efficiently link Shanghai with the U.S. West Coast. On October 29, Malaysia Airlines increased its Shanghai-Kuala Lumpur cargo route frequency to five weekly flights, further strengthening supply chain ties with ASEAN partners. On October 31, Suparna Airlines launched a new chartered route between Shanghai and Riyadh, followed by China Cargo Airlines inaugurating a scheduled cargo route from Shanghai to Riyadh and Budapest on November 3, better serving the Belt and Road Initiative and China's high-level opening-up.
The appeal of the cargo hub is increasingly evident. The rapid addition and expansion of routes are supported by a favorable port business environment, comprehensive facilities, and efficient ground services. Shanghai Airport has continuously optimized cross-border e-commerce cargo facilitation, helping "Made in China" products reach global markets. The "AviPort" platform integrates full-chain logistics data, offering users one-stop services, unified tracking, and comprehensive management. The airport also pioneered a "waybill transfer" service, achieving a breakthrough in international air cargo transshipment models at Shanghai Port. Additionally, it is collaborating with globally renowned partners to prepare for the Shanghai Airport Smart Cargo Terminal project, aiming to set a new benchmark for intelligent cargo terminal operations worldwide.
The hub's position is further solidified. This year, Shanghai's air cargo business has shown steady growth, with cargo and mail throughput reaching 3.7 million tons from January to October, up over 7% year-on-year. Currently, more than 40 all-cargo airlines operate at Shanghai Airport, serving 64 dedicated cargo destinations, reinforcing its role as a key logistics hub in the Asia-Pacific region and a critical node in the global supply chain.
