Call for Submissions Opens for Outstanding Small Theater Performances at the 2026 Shenyang Arts Season

Deep News07-31

The Shenyang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, and Television announced on July 30 that it is now accepting submissions for small theater performances to be featured during the 2026 Shenyang Arts Season. This initiative aims to further invigorate the small theater scene and meet the growing cultural and spiritual needs of the public.

The Shenyang Arts Season serves as a primary platform for showcasing the city's professional cultural and artistic achievements across a wide range of fields. Through sustained branding and market development, it has become a hallmark of Shenyang's cultural identity. The "Small Theater Performances" segment, a key component of the season, has effectively promoted the standardized and healthy growth of small theaters while fostering intercity cultural exchange and mutual learning.

The current call for submissions is designed to nurture emerging theatrical talent and cultivate a new generation of drama enthusiasts by emphasizing contemporary themes and unique artistic styles. Through continuous development and support, the goal is to establish the small theater unit as a renowned brand within the arts season, bringing theater closer to the public and further driving the prosperity and innovation of small theater drama creation.

Submissions are open to all artistic creation and performance units across society, including state-owned and private cultural organizations, as well as university-affiliated art institutions. Selected works must adhere to a principle of excellence, prioritize originality, and focus on small theater dramas. Eligible categories include, but are not limited to, plays, operas, musicals, cross-talk, and stand-up comedy. Performances in new artistic spaces, such as immersive and interactive small-scale shows, are especially encouraged. Each performance should ideally run between 60 and 120 minutes.

Submitted works should be guided by socialist core values, promote positive and uplifting energy, and demonstrate a degree of experimentation, exploration, and innovation. Original works are highly encouraged, as are creations by new artistic organizations and groups. Adapted works must clearly cite their sources and obtain valid legal authorization.

Required submission materials include the theme and background of the work, an overview of the creative team, and a script outline. The submission period runs from now until August 15. Please send materials to the following email address: syyishuchu@163.com.
