Samsung Emerges as South Korea's Most Indebted Conglomerate, Financial Watchdog Reports

South Korea's financial regulator stated on Tuesday that Samsung has become the nation's most indebted conglomerate, with its total liabilities exceeding those of the SK Group by the end of 2025.

SK Group, the parent company of chipmaker SK Hynix, fell to third place, with Hyundai Motor ranking second. Lotte Group followed in fourth place, and LG Group in fifth.

Overall, a total of 42 conglomerates were identified as highly indebted, up from 41 in the previous year.

As of the end of last year, the outstanding bank credit balance for these groups amounted to 386.9 trillion won (approximately $255 billion), marking a 4.1% increase compared to the previous year.
