China's economic barometer, developed by a national financial information platform, provides a granular view of the economy through detailed microdata, offering a clearer economic portrait for the market. This installment focuses on the changes in national business registrations for June 2026, along with characteristics across provinces and industries.
According to the data, in June 2026, there were 2.011 million newly registered business entities nationwide, an increase of 89,200 compared to May, but representing a year-on-year decline of 8.5%.
Guangdong Maintains Top Spot in New Registrations but Sees Continued Annual Decline
From a provincial perspective, Guangdong Province continued to hold the top position for new business registrations, with 272,300 new entities registered in June. However, it maintained the downward annual trend seen last month, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.86%. Nationally, the top ten provinces for new registrations in June were Guangdong, Zhejiang, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hebei, Fujian, Sichuan, and Anhui.
In June, new business registrations nationwide were also concentrated in these ten provinces, which together accounted for 63.61% of the total.
Hainan Records the Fastest Growth Rate for New Registrations
Looking at the growth rate of new registrations across regions, Hainan Province recorded the highest increase in June, with a surge of 30.18%. It was followed by Zhejiang Province with an increase of 15.82%.
Retail Sector Has the Highest Number of New Registrations
By industry, retail had the highest number of new registrations nationwide in June 2026, with a total of 185,100 entities registered for the month. The top ten industries for new registrations in June 2026 remained consistent with May, in the following order: Retail; Wholesale; Technology Promotion and Application Services; Business Services; Software and Information Technology Services; Building Decoration, Renovation, and Other Construction; Culture and Arts; Professional and Technical Services; Catering; and Real Estate.
Among these, Technology Promotion and Application Services saw the highest growth rate, with a year-on-year increase of 19.18%.
Information Technology Sector Leads in Number of Financing Events
Data shows that, as of the end of June 2026, China recorded a total of 475 investment and financing events. By industry, manufacturing had the most financing events, with 251 occurrences. By region, Beijing ranked first with 93 financing events, followed by Guangdong Province with 79. The top five regions are detailed in the accompanying chart.
