Alibaba Group has refuted recent online rumors claiming that the core team of its Qwen AI model has collectively resigned and that the company is adjusting its open-source strategy. The company clarified the following points: First, the Qwen model team remains stable, with no mass departure occurring, and all products and services are operating normally. Second, Qwen will continue its open-source strategy. The core model team has never been assigned commercial KPIs such as DAU; the goal of the Qwen model is to continuously push the boundaries of AI capabilities and achieve AGI. Third, Alibaba sincerely welcomes top global AI talent to join and collaborate on building world-class large model technology and an open-source ecosystem. Alibaba will continue to increase investments to provide solid support for the Qwen team as it strives for technological breakthroughs. On the morning of March 5, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu addressed the departure of Lin Junyang in an internal email, stating that the company had approved Lin's resignation and thanked him for his contributions. On March 4, Lin Junyang posted on his WeChat Moments, saying, "Sorry friends, I won’t be answering messages or calls today—I really need a rest. To the Qwen team: keep going according to the original plan; everything will be fine." It is worth noting that, in addition to Lin Junyang, Yu Bowen, the head of post-training for Qwen, also announced his departure on the same day.
