Bayan County Drives Grain Yield Growth Through Four Key Strategies

Deep News05-26

Bayan County has been focused on the goals of stabilizing acreage, increasing yield per unit area, and boosting total output since the beginning of the year. By implementing the coordinated "Five Excellences" approach and vigorously promoting large-scale yield improvement actions for grain crops, the county is making precise efforts in four key areas to further tap into the potential for increased grain production. This provides strong support for ensuring national food security and accelerating the construction of a strong agricultural county.

The first area of focus is continuously stabilizing and solidifying the foundation to build a strong base for increased production. Centered on the objectives of stable and increased output, the county has scientifically optimized its planting structure and started preparations for spring farming early. The county has allocated 3.4381 million mu for grain crop cultivation, including 522,100 mu for soybeans, 2.5184 million mu for corn, 392,100 mu for rice, and 5,500 mu for potatoes and miscellaneous grains. The goal is to achieve a grain output of over 3.8 billion jin. Additionally, soybean planting tasks have been assigned to 18 townships and 3 farms across the county to fully exploit planting potential and ensure the completion of soybean cultivation targets. Supplies have been distributed promptly, including 9,600 tons of seeds, 128,200 tons of fertilizer, 431 tons of agricultural film, 23,600 tons of diesel, and 824.7 tons of pesticides. Funds totaling 1.157 billion yuan have been raised for spring farming preparations.

The second area is continuously empowering through technology to drive a leap in production capacity. A series of training sessions have been conducted focusing on yield improvement for the three major crops—corn, rice, and soybeans—as well as the cultivation techniques for large-ridge planting of corn and soybeans. On-site meetings have been held to promote the successful experience of high-yield cultivation techniques using large-ridge dense planting. By comparing the per-mu yield and costs of traditional planting methods with those of large-ridge dense planting techniques, farmers are helped to calculate the economic benefits in the most direct way. Agricultural technical experts have been invited to provide training and guidance, with 694 new types of business entities participating in online sessions to learn about the application methods of high-yield cultivation techniques for corn and soybeans using large-ridge dense planting. An investment of 4.59 million yuan has been made to establish 2 ten-thousand-mu high-yield demonstration areas and 10 thousand-mu demonstration plots to promote the widespread adoption of high-yield cultivation techniques for corn using large-ridge dense planting.

The third area is continuously protecting black soil to cultivate fertile land for abundant harvests. Efforts are ongoing to advance the construction of high-standard farmland and strengthen agricultural infrastructure. Leading teams have worked on-site to promptly resolve disputes and unexpected issues during project construction, proactively tackling challenges. While actively seeking higher-level funding, the county has fully allocated local matching funds to meet project financial needs. Applications have been submitted for 260,000 mu of high-standard farmland projects in 2026 (including 250,000 mu of new construction and 10,000 mu of renovation and upgrading), awaiting approval from the National Development and Reform Commission. The transformation of paddy fields continues to improve land utilization efficiency. Adhering to principles such as contiguous land plots, relatively complete irrigation facilities, and moderate slopes for paddy fields, the county has allocated 1,543 mu for high-standard paddy field grid transformation this year.

The fourth area is continuously enhancing efficiency through scale to unleash intensive dynamics. Leveraging the national policy of "full-cost insurance for three major grain crops," the county continues to implement "guaranteed" trusteeship services, allowing farmers to entrust their land with "zero risk." By fully utilizing the demonstration and driving role of benefiting farmers, the socialized service model of "land trusteeship + financial services + agricultural insurance + grain sales" is further strengthened, effectively mobilizing farmers' participation enthusiasm. This year, the county has 13,225 new types of business entities, with moderate-scale operation area reaching 2.8765 million mu. There are 642 organizations participating in agricultural production trusteeship services, covering an area of 1.7097 million mu, a 21.88% increase compared to the same period last year. A total of 28,600 farming households have participated in agricultural production trusteeship services.
