Samsung announced on the 22nd that it has successfully completed the industry's first validation of its 16GB LPDDR6 memory on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform, achieving input/output (I/O) speeds of up to 10.7Gbps. As AI workloads grow increasingly complex, on-device AI is evolving toward multimodal capabilities and intelligent agents, which raises the bar for memory bandwidth, power management, and reliability.
Samsung's LPDDR6 is purpose-built for demanding on-device AI applications through three key innovations. First, it delivers up to 114GB/s of memory bandwidth by optimizing per-pin I/O speed and upgrading the I/O architecture, effectively alleviating data bottlenecks. Second, it incorporates DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling) and DEM (Dynamic Energy Mode) to adjust power consumption in real time based on workload, achieving up to 21% better energy efficiency compared to LPDDR5X. Third, it features PRAC (Pseudo Row Activation Counting) technology, which detects repeated activation patterns in specific rows to prevent data interference and ensure stable performance during prolonged operation.
In addition, Samsung Electronics has completed the industry-first validation of 16GB LPDDR6 on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform, with I/O rates reaching a maximum of 10.7Gbps. Jang Chang-seok, Executive Vice President of Product Planning at Samsung Electronics' Memory Business, stated: "Following our pioneering work in LPDDR6 development, we have successfully delivered samples and completed quality validation on Qualcomm's next-generation platform. This milestone reaffirms LPDDR6's technical prowess and product maturity. Moving forward, we will align with customer and market commercialization timelines to deliver high-performance, low-power memory solutions that will lead the next generation of AI devices."
Salman Saeed, Vice President at Qualcomm, commented: "The validation of Samsung's LPDDR6 on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 represents a significant achievement in our joint efforts to advance next-generation mobile technology. LPDDR6 provides the bandwidth and energy efficiency essential for premium on-device AI experiences. With this industry-first validation, we look forward to continuing our collaboration to drive innovation across the mobile ecosystem."
