This Friday, July 17th, domestic fuel prices in China are scheduled for an adjustment. It is anticipated that the price per liter of 92-octane gasoline will rise by 0.12 yuan, 95-octane gasoline by 0.13 yuan per liter, and 0-diesel by 0.12 yuan per liter.
In accordance with the domestic refined oil product pricing cycle, the 14th adjustment window of the year will open at 24:00 on July 17th. Today marks the eighth working day of the current statistical period.
Current Price Movement Forecast
The latest calculations indicate projected increases of 150 yuan per ton for gasoline and 145 yuan per ton for diesel. Translating to retail pump prices, this is expected to result in a rise of 0.12 yuan per liter for 92-octane gasoline, 0.13 yuan per liter for 95-octane gasoline, and 0.12 yuan per liter for 0-diesel.
The current national average retail prices are approximately 7.16 yuan per liter for 92-octane, 7.65 yuan per liter for 95-octane, and 6.80 yuan per liter for 0-diesel.
A friendly reminder: prices are likely to increase on Friday evening. Owners of fuel-powered vehicles can save on travel expenses by refueling before the adjustment takes effect at 24:00 on July 17th.
Fuel-Saving Techniques
Driving habits are a major factor influencing fuel consumption. Aggressive acceleration from a standstill and frequent hard braking can increase fuel usage by up to 30%. A smoother approach is recommended: apply gentle pressure on the accelerator when starting to allow the engine speed to rise steadily, avoiding high-load operation. Maintain a constant speed while driving, aiming for 60-80 km/h on urban roads and not exceeding 120 km/h on highways, as most vehicles are most efficient within this range.
When approaching a red light or traffic congestion, release the accelerator early to coast rather than braking hard at the last moment. This practice reduces wear on brake pads and can save a significant amount of fuel.
Reducing Vehicle Load
Avoid letting your vehicle carry unnecessary weight. Items left in the trunk long-term, roof racks, and external storage boxes can all increase aerodynamic drag and vehicle weight. Tests show that for every extra 100 kilograms of weight, fuel consumption can rise by 5% to 8%. Regularly clearing out unused items from the trunk and removing long-term external fixtures allows your vehicle to run lighter and more efficiently.
Efficient Air Conditioning Use
Many believe using air conditioning is fuel-intensive, but driving with windows down can be even less efficient at higher speeds. At speeds below 60 km/h, opening windows for ventilation may save fuel compared to using the AC. However, at speeds over 80 km/h, the aerodynamic drag caused by open windows consumes more fuel than the energy used by the air conditioning compressor.
Additionally, when using the AC, open the windows for about two minutes first to vent hot air before closing them and setting the cooling. Setting the temperature between 24-26°C and using the recirculation mode can reduce the load on the AC system, further saving fuel.
Regular Vehicle Maintenance
The engine is the heart of the vehicle, and poor maintenance directly increases fuel consumption. Change the engine oil on schedule using the manufacturer's recommended grade, as oil that is too thick increases engine operating resistance. Regularly clean or replace the air filter; a clogged filter restricts airflow to the engine, leading to incomplete combustion. Check tire pressure regularly, as under-inflation increases the contact patch and rolling resistance. A decrease of 0.3 bar in pressure can lead to a roughly 1% increase in fuel consumption.
Route Planning
Avoiding congestion saves fuel. Idling in traffic constantly consumes fuel without moving the vehicle. Before heading out, use a navigation app to check real-time traffic conditions and avoid congested routes and peak hours. Opt for routes with fewer traffic lights and smoother traffic flow to minimize frequent stops and starts. For the same distance, a clear route can save over 20% in fuel compared to a congested one, while also saving travel time.
Additional Fuel-Saving Habits
If idling for extended periods (over 3 minutes), such as at long red lights or while waiting, turn off the engine to avoid unnecessary fuel waste. Refueling during cooler morning or evening hours can be advantageous due to the principle of thermal expansion; fuel density is higher at lower temperatures, meaning you get slightly more mass for the same volume. For short urban trips, consider filling only half the tank to reduce vehicle weight, reserving a full tank for longer journeys to avoid extra trips to the gas station. Minimize aggressive acceleration for overtaking, as the sudden high engine RPM significantly increases fuel consumption. Avoid unnecessary lane changes and overtaking maneuvers.
