Former Vice Chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's Political Consultative Conference, Xie Zhiqiang, Passes Away at 85

Xie Zhiqiang, former Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, passed away on May 16, 2026, at the age of 85. Public records indicate that Xie Zhiqiang, born in 1941, dedicated much of his career to the petroleum industry in Xinjiang. He held key positions including Deputy Party Secretary and Director of the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau, Party Secretary of the Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau, Secretary of the Karamay Municipal Party Committee, and Chairman of the Karamay Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In an interview in 2015, Xie Zhiqiang expressed his confidence in Karamay's development, stating, "I firmly believe that the progress of Karamay reflects the collective efforts of several generations over six decades, with each generation surpassing the previous one in innovation and advancement. The younger generations are more pioneering, scientific, and capable, which is the essence of Karamay's transformation. I am confident that in another 30 or 60 years, Karamay will undergo even greater changes, as society will be more enterprising and pioneering than it is today. Future generations will achieve even more remarkable accomplishments and live in a happier era."
